111 years old… The age of reason?

Holy Emile Piccard, he must have had a certain character. I don't know what could have driven my great-grandfather to leave the neighboring estate located a stone's throw away in 1913 to come and settle here. Certainly, there was a breathtaking view, overlooking his former ministry...

What's certain is that he did the right thing! None of this would be before you today without him and his wife Justine. The following generations: Robert & Rosa, Michel & Hélène, also worked their entire lives to maintain, improve, and make the adventure possible to this day. They suffered, sweated, and gave their all during all these years of endless labor.

Each generation has faced its own challenges. In that respect, nothing changes. The environment itself has changed, and is changing so rapidly today... Images of an entire life in Emile and Justine's time fit into one of our days, and yet... How everything is accelerating! Perhaps that's the current challenge: slowing down?

Climate change, global warming, uncontrolled proliferation of pollutants, plastic or eternal, digital humanization of relationships, feelings, our own experiences, our neighborhoods… How can we keep our feet on the ground and live a human life? It wasn't all rosy in 1913, nor in '33, nor in '43… Fortunately for us, things have improved since then! Us? Europeans, Swiss, Vaudois, Lavaux residents (there are none like us), Lutry monkeys? Or citizens of the world? I like to think globally and act locally. Today, we are them over there, and they over there are us. It's the allegory of today's world of insidious violence. Who still believes that not polluting here by polluting further away is a sustainable solution? Since there's so much of everything, let's take a little away and find ourselves in 2025. Let's rediscover the simple things, the ones that remind us of our freedom to be... Joyful, bon vivant, noisy, open, and curious. In my opinion, all this work over four generations, 111 years, has no other outcome than putting humanity back at the center; a center in humanity. And what better way to remember what's essential to our lives than by feasting, dancing, and getting drunk?

111 years, eh? Well, let's celebrate this 111th! From March to November, we invite you to rediscover what constitutes the essence (the senses?) of our estate, in our vineyards, our cellar, our terrace, of course, and elsewhere!
